What exactly comes with a Tiny Cabin?

March started a new normal for the world as we have always known it. Most of us have been quarantined for months and are itching for some sort of scenery change that still feels safe. I finally got to experience the gem of a tiny cabin with Laila not too far from our current city that provided us a calm and quiet environment. This experience was distanced enough from neighbors to feel safe, but close enough to neighbors so I didn’t feel like we would end up in a horror movie! We were emailed instructions a week before arrival, reminded a few days be arrival of things to do in the area via email and text, and then given the tiny cabin assignment and entry code 30 minutes before check-in. This post will show you the ins and outs of the tiny cabins Getaway House has created, household comfort items you many want to bring, and safety features I noticed while there.

What’s included in the tiny cabin

I’ve included a thorough list of everything we had in our cabin because this is the list I wanted before going.

When we first arrived at our tiny cabin we parked directly in front of our assigned space and took a look around at everything available to us outside. The Getaway team will text you 30 minutes prior to check in your exact tiny cabin assignment and the keypad code to unlock your door. Unfortunately, our keypad code didn’t work upon arrival, so I called the phone number attached to all communications for them and immediately received a response with a team member. She reset the code for me and that didn’t work either, she let me know there was a back-up plan for this though and had me find the lockbox attached to the hitch of the cabin to retrieve a physical key.

Outside

  • Picnic table with attached benches
  • 2 Sitting chairs
  • A fire pit with a grilling grate attached
  • A box with firewood and fire starters for purchase (this will be billed to you after you check out if you want to use for a fire)

Inside

  • Table with a chair
  • Queen bed with 4 pillows, white sheets, and a duvet comforter (the bed has a side bench attached to it that can be used as seating for the table
  • Radio
  • Books
  • Card deck
  • Landline phone
  • AC/heating unit
  • USB charged lantern
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Stovetop with two burners
  • Mini fridge
  • Extremely small handheld mirror
  • Cooking items (one pot, one pan, cutting knives, 2 lighters to start fires, 4 plates, four bowls, 4 sets of utensils, 4 cups, 4 coffee mugs, large mixing or serving bowl, tongs, wooden spoon for cooking, cutting board, can opener, kettle, wine opener, foil, and scissors).
  • Misc. kitchen items: Paper towels, two dish rags, unopened sponge, dishwashing liquid, trash can, small sweeping brush and dustpan
  • Olive oil, salt and pepper, creamer, sugar
  • Various food items and snacks for purchase.
  • The bathroom included a fully functioning toilet and stand up shower, shower gel, shampoo/conditioner, 2 large bath towels, 2 rolls of toilet paper, and a first aid kit

If you feel you need anything outside of these things you will need to bring them yourself.

Things we brought

I may have brought more than necessary just because I wanted to be sure we were comfortable haha. They honestly provide most of the things you’ll need though.

  • All the toiletries we like
  • bug spray!
  • All the food items we wanted to cook and have for snacks and drinks
  • Seasonings (like I said earlier they only supply salt and pepper)
  • Our own mugs for hot chocolate
  • My favorite tea mug
  • Our own activities I knew would be fun for Laila (a full activity list will posted soon)
  • Roasting sticks for smores (I’m glad we brought our own because they had a shortage due to shipping issues when we arrived so they would have not been available for us)
  • An extra blanket
  • Small towels
  • Netting to cover all the food we ate outside (the flies were aggressive, so this was a life saver)

Safety

I’m sure this is on the forefront of most people’s minds when deciding if you should book or not. We honestly felt completely safe the entire weekend we were there. The locks on the door had a regular lock and a pull-out security lock you see on hotel doors for added security. There is also a land line to call 911 or the Getaway staff that is available 24/7. I didn’t use the land line at all, but I would text the staff and call them and both methods were responded to right away no matter what I needed. At one point I text the staff for more fire starters for the campfire and someone was at my cabin with it in less than 3 minutes. So if it was an emergency, I can only imagine how short the wait time would be.

If you’re on the fence about trying this experience, I would definitely give it a chance. I plan to do it again in the future most likely at a different outpost close to another city. All of the cities these experiences are close to are listed on their website. Take a look and see if there is one near you. If you would like a $25 off code be sure to ask me!
