10 Activities to do with the kids on a trip that doesn’t include an iPad or TV

This past weekend at a tiny cabin in the woods ended up being so much more fun than I anticipated for both me and Laila. I’m not going to lie; I was a little nervous about going the entire weekend without an iPad to keep Laila occupied for at least a few minutes a day. But all in all, I thought it would be a great break and bonding experience between us. I was right, we had an amazing time together! If you are interested in trying something like this out, but aren’t sure what to do I’ve put a list together of 10 fun activities that we did while there. Just take a look below.

Puzzles

I took a couple of puzzles for Laila that were appropriate for her age that she could occupy herself with if I needed to cook or rest a little. All of the puzzles we brought for her were from our favorite puzzle company Puzzle Huddle. I also brought a puzzle for me that I wasn’t able to quite finish in time like Laila.

Reading

Laila loves books and I haven’t taken the time to read a physical book in a while, so I challenged myself to put away the audio book and pick up an actual book with tangible pages.

S’mores

What’s a glamping trip without s’mores?! I went to the grocery store and found the largest marshmallows I’ve ever seen, that was reason enough for Laila to be excited. We brought out own extendable roasting sticks so I could feel comfortable with Laila’s distance to the fire and made awesome s’mores a few times on the trip.

Spooky Campfire Stories

This activity was actually Laila’s idea. She has always seen kid shows and cartoons show people telling “spooky” stories in the woods. It was so funny seeing her make up stories on the spot, my kid is definitely a creative!

Slime

Every kids’ current favorite activity has come to be making slime, so why not bring it to eat away some free time. We made sure we bought the glow in the dark slime kit so that we could play with it at night!

Card Games

We took our very own card games that we created along with us this weekend and of course had a great time with them. If you’re not aware of the games we currently offer, take a look at the shop section of the website to read all about Go Travel, Travel Memory, and Canceled Flight. You can of course always ask me any questions you have about the games.

Frisbee

When’s the last time you just went outside and tossed around a frisbee? I used to play this game all the time as a kid, I almost forgot how much fun it is.

Coloring Book and Coloring Activities

We also took the opportunity to bring our very own activity book with us. It contains coloring pages, tic tac toe, mazes, spot the difference activities, all 7 continents, and more. Take a look in the shop section of our website to support our business and purchase.

Glow in the Dark Ring Toss

I went to the dollar store to purchase a lot of glow in the dark sticks and combined them to make medium sized colorful rings. Then I used a piece of firewood as a post and just like that we were ready for a super fun ring toss game!

Colorful Campfire

I discovered these really cool campfire packets on amazon to throw in the fire and it turned the flames into rainbow colors of blue, green, yellow, and red. Only adults should handle these packets though, and you can’t cook over them so be sure to do it once you’re done using the campfire for anything else.

These were some of the most fun things we did together, but there’s so many more things you can do that doesn’t involve a tv or iPad. It’s something we definitely brought back with us as a mind set and I’m looking forward to being intentional about having fun outside of a tiny cabin setting with other things that aren’t necessarily electronics. I hope this was a helpful start to your future trip way to disconnect from devices an reconnect with each other!
