An afternoon in Napa Valley with a Toddler

When you think of Napa Valley do you think of a girl’s weekend away or a romantic baecation? Most people don’t even consider spending time with their little ones at a winery because it just doesn’t seem like a place for kids. Luckily for you, we found a super family friendly winery in Napa Valley that welcomes kids and even has activities to keep them busy while the adults get to wine taste and mingle that I’m going to tell you all about below.

Castello di Amorosa is a tourist friendly winery in Napa Valley that was built to resemble a 13thcentury Tuscan style castle. Wandering through a castle is fun enough for kids and the wine selections available for adults makes this a win-win family afternoon all around.

You begin by driving up a long driveway to designated parking spots. I’d suggest you get here early to avoid having to wait for parking because this space tends to fill up quickly. We chose a general admission self-guided tour due to Laila’s age at the time (she was two) and it was also the cheapest option. They have a variety of options available though, from guided tours, to food and wine pairing, to private tastings away from the crowds. They basically have options to fit their guests desires along with their price tags.

On our self-guided tour, we walked around the castle taking in the beautiful views of the access we had to two levels of the winery. Along with the self-guided tour we were able to taste 5 different wine selections. The wine tasting was held in the Knight’s Hall below ground and had different activities for kids to keep them busy while we enjoyed the wine. Laila was able to sit at a royal table and color different pages while drinking the available grape juice for kids. We also had access to the outside estate of the winery, which included walking around the beautiful vineyards and enjoying the animals on the grounds (think goats, an ostrich, a peacock, and many others).

We took the time to visit two different wineries on this day, but Castello di Amorosa was by far the most kid friendly in my research and from the two we visited that day. Overall this trip made for a great afternoon trip to Napa Valley with plenty of room for Laila to run and jump around while we toured the grounds of Castello di Amorosa and for us to enjoy a nice wine tasting. Who said you can’t still enjoy adult life with a little one around?!
