Cayman Islands with Kids
If you want to experience an island where you can truly relax and unwind. I’d highly suggest Grand Cayman Island of the Cayman Islands! We took a quick three day trip here over Labor Day weekend in 2017.
Most of this trip was spent at the hotel enjoying the pool, beach, and included activities. When you first walk out to the beach at the back of the hotel we stayed at (Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort) there are a list of rules to greet you making sure you know that you are there on vacation and should act accordingly. Meaning only relaxing and fun behavior will be tolerated…I’ll drink to that!
We decided to make the first day the pool day and we planned to use the next day entirely for the beach. This was a great plan and was a lot of fun for Laila, then one of the other kids had an accident in the pool (a solid accident- ahhhh). The pool was closed for cleaning and treatment, so off to the beach we went. There were several trampolines set up by the hotel staff in the ocean for the guest to use and they were a lot of fun to sit in for me. Laila used them as a kid would and enjoyed jumping up and down and splashing. One thing I loved about our time there was how calm the ocean was, it was like a giant pool for everyone to enjoy! The first night there was a huge s’more station set up and Laila made her very own s’mores for the first time.
One of the most visited attractions in Grand Cayman is the Cayman Turtle Centre and one of the only adventures we were a part of outside of things happening on the resort. It’s the only place in the world that breeds green sea turtles, releases captive bred sea turtles into their natural habitats, and lets visitors see these creatures up close and personal. I’ve never seen turtles this huge before, you can buy food to feed them and also pet the smaller turtles if you’d like. There’s a small water park area for the use of the guests and a small bar and restaurant available as well.
We tried to go into town Sunday evening only to find that everything in town except a couple of restaurants were closed and all the local people were all at home enjoying their families. I can’t stress enough how laid back this island is. If your plan isn’t to come to an island to relax and unplug, pick somewhere else. If you need a true break, check this destination out without question!
